Garth Garris has been named as the new principal of Lincoln County High School.  Mr. Garris will succeed Ms. Sarah Wallace who is retiring June 30th. Mr. Garris comes to LCHS after serving as principal of Highland Rim School.  Prior to coming to Lincoln County, Mr. Garris completed twenty-five years of service in Alabama serving as a teacher, high school coach, assistant principal and principal.

Mr. Garris is a 1986 graduate of Elkmont High School. He earned a B.S. in Education from Athens State College and his M.A. in Educational Administration from the University of North Alabama in 1998. He began his teaching and coaching career at East Limestone High School where he served as head boys basketball coach for twelve years, head softball coach for four years, head golf coach for two years and head baseball coach for one year. He also served as an assistant football coach for five years. In basketball his teams won 6 Limestone County Championships, 6 Area Championships and appeared in the State Tournament 4 times including 2 Final Fours. East Limestone made the Elite Eight in five of the 12 seasons and won over 200 games in 12 years. His softball team also was the Class A-3A State fast pitch softball Runner-Up in 1997.

In 2003, he was hired by Madison County Schools and started his administrative career.  While in Madison County, he served as assistant principal at Monrovia Elementary School,  assistant principal and athletic director at Hazel Green High School and principal of Madison County High School.

In 2010, he felt the call to return to coaching basketball and accepted the head boys basketball coach at his alma mater, Elkmont High School. He coached the team for 3 years which included one Elite Eight Appearance and one Area Championship. He also assisted with football and baseball for three years. In 2013, Garth was named principal at Elkmont High School.  In December of 2015, he retired from the state of Alabama and became the principal at Highland Rim School in February 2016.

Garth and his wife Allison have one son Brady who will be attending the University of Alabama in the Fall.
