School-Wide Title I Parent Involvement Policy
South Lincoln Elementary School Parent Involvement Policy is jointly developed and agreed upon by a committee that consists of parents, teachers, administrators, and other staff members. The School-wide Title I policy will be evaluated and updated annually by the committee to accommodate any changing needs. The most current version of the policy will be presented and distributed to all parents at the beginning of each academic year and will be written in language that is simple and understandable. A copy of the policy will be on file in the school, with the district Federal Programs director, and with the Lincoln County Board of Education. The policy can also be found on our school website.
South Lincoln will convene an annual meeting to inform parents of the school's participation in the School-Wide Title I program, to explain the program and its requirements, inform parents of their right to be involved, encourage their attendance, discuss the Parent-Student-School compact, and provide an opportunity for parents to serve on the School-Wide Title I committee. Invitations notifying parents of this meeting will be sent home.
The school will survey parents for convenient meeting times and offer such options as morning, afternoon, or evening to ensure that all parents have the opportunity to be involved in the meetings. Efforts will be made to eliminate any parent involvement barriers. Childcare services may be offered at selected meetings and will be provided if a parent survey indicates the need exists.
Parents will be involved in an organized, ongoing, and timely way in developing, reviewing, evaluating, and improving the School-Wide Title I program, including the Parent Involvement Policy and the Parent-Student-School Compact. Parents will be invited to all School-Wide Title I committee meetings to ensure opportunities for involvement. The school and parents will work jointly on an ongoing basis to improve parental involvement.
Providing Parent Information
The school will provide parents of all students with timely information either by conferences, meetings, literature, school website, or online school newsletter concerning:
• Title I Programs in the school
• Results of the annual school review including school performance profiles
• Individual students' assessment results and their interpretation
• A description and explanation of the school curriculum
• Assessments used to measure student progress and the proficiency levels the students are expected to meet
• Opportunities for regular meeting to formulate suggestions, share experiences with other parents, and participate as appropriate in decisions relating to the education of their children
• Provide timely responses to parent suggestions
• Collect all unsatisfactory/satisfactory parent comments regarding the School-Wide Plan when submitted to the LEA
South Lincoln Elementary School will provide all parents with the information to facilitate understanding in the following areas:
• National Education Goals
• State's academic content and student performance standards
• School improvement process, if applicable
• Components of a school-wide program
• State and local assessments
• Requirements of School-Wide Title I parent involvement
• Ways parents can monitor their children's progress and work with other educators to improve student performance
• Ways parents can participate in decisions relating to the education of their children
• No Child Left Behind (NCLB)
• Resources and programs that are available to eligible children
Materials and Training Opportunities
The school will provide appropriate and feasible materials and training determined by parent input and surveys. Examples are as follows:
• Coordinating necessary literacy training and using technology from other sources to help parents work with their children to improve their children's achievement
• Training to help parents work with their children to improve their children's achievement
• Providing parents with information and materials needed for enrolling in high school programs, High School Equivalency Diploma Test (GED), and other literacy training programs
• Technology training to assist parents in working with their children
Opportunities will be made to educate staff members in understanding the value of working as partners with parents. Parent-led programs such as the P.T.O (Parent Teacher Organization) and family literacy nights will be planned to build ties between home and school. In-service training, conferences, workshops, faculty meetings, etc will provide assistance to staff in techniques for reaching out and communicating effectively with parents as equal partners.
Coordination of Parent Involvement Programs
A plan will be developed to coordinate and integrate parent involvement programs, activities, and strategies with other programs such as Head Start, L.E.A.P. S. (Learning Enrichment After-School Programs), and other appropriate programs and agencies in the community.
Realizing the value of outside resources, South Lincoln Elementary School will develop appropriate community-based partnerships for parent involvement and activities with businesses, service organizations, and the community. This may include providing information about opportunities for community organizations and businesses to work with parents and form partnerships.
As appropriate and feasible, the school may provide the following opportunities to help parents become full partners in the education of their children:
• Literacy training
• Child Development
• Positive Behavior
• Helpful Homework Strategies
• Local parental involvement activities
• Training for parents to enhance involvement of other parents
• Adopting and implementing a model designed to improve parental
• Providing other reasonable support for parental involvement activities as parents request
• Parents will be informed of and encouraged to use resources/materials provided by the intervention teacher throughout the school year to meet the educational needs of their children
Parent Involvement Assessment
Parents will participate in an ongoing and end of the year assessment to evaluate the effectiveness of the parent involvement initiative. These evaluations will be essential to South Lincoln's continuous improvement of parental involvement and participation.
Primary Language and Communication Adaptation
South Lincoln Elementary School will ensure, to the extent feasible, that information concerning school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities and information will be sent home in the primary language used in the home and in a format understandable to all parents including Limited English Proficient, migratory workers, and those with disabilities.
Other Parental Activities
To strengthen parent involvement, South Lincoln will provide, as appropriate and feasible, other reasonable support for parental involvement activities upon parent request.
Optional Parental Involvement Activities
Optional parental involvement activities may include the following:
• Involving parents in the training available for teacher, administrators, and other educators, as appropriate and feasible, to improve effectiveness of such training
• Training parents to enhance the involvement of other parents
• Adopting and implementing model approaches to improve parental involvement
